Jan 21, 2010 - Mohave State Bank in Yuma yields results

52 Proud Graduates

How to save. How to spend. How to handle money wisely. These are the lessons students learn during Mohave State Bank’s financial literacy course at Alice Byrne Elementary School in Yuma. For several hours a week, Jeff Byrd, Business Relationship Manager at Mohave State Bank, rolls up his sleeves to teach two 4th grade classes about financial basics.

Following six weeks of hard work, Jeff is thrilled that fifty-two kids will graduate from Mohave State Bank’s financial literacy program on January 19, 2010. Children learn to discern between needs and wants; open a savings account, and save for the future. Several students even learn how to be bankers by running an in-school bank for fellow classmates. Jeff makes his class fun and interactive, with kids asking lots of questions and participating in exercises that teach them about making smart money decisions.

“Working at the financial literacy classes and Junior Bank at Alice Byrne is truly the favorite part of my week. Those 4th grade smiles and genuine enthusiasm for learning is contagious. It makes me feel great to work for a bank that really understands and more importantly supports youth educational programs. We are enhancing the quality of life in each community we serve, not for just today—but for the future.”
